'Arrest Warrants Issued for Four, Including Yonsei University Professor, Over Ice Hockey Admission Fraud Allegations'
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] The prosecution has requested arrest warrants for four individuals, including professors, in connection with allegations of admission fraud in the Yonsei University ice hockey program.
According to the legal community on the 8th, the Criminal Division 5 of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Moonki Bae) filed arrest warrants on the 6th against three professors from Yonsei University's Department of Physical Education and one professor from another university on charges of obstruction of business.
They are accused of participating as evaluators in the selection process for sports talent students in the Department of Physical Education at Yonsei University for the 2019 academic year, giving high scores to certain students with poor athletic performance, and considering the 'position,' which was not part of the evaluation criteria.
In January last year, the Ministry of Education conducted a special audit on the allegations of fraudulent admissions and referred the case to the prosecution for investigation regarding suspicions that university officials received bribes.

The pre-arrest detention hearing for the suspects will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the Seoul Western District Court, presided over by Chief Judge Changhoon Yoo. The decision on whether to detain them is expected to be made late in the afternoon.
