Jongno-gu Issues 20 Billion Won of Mobile Local Currency 'Jongno Sarang Gift Certificates'
Issued only in mobile form and usable at over 8,000 ZeroPay加盟店 in the region... Purchase and use via dedicated application, and gifting is possible... During special sales periods such as before and after holidays, an additional 3% discount is applied, allowing a total of 10% cheaper gift certificate purchases.
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jongno-gu (District Mayor Kim Young-jong) will issue 20 billion KRW worth of the mobile local currency "Jongno Love Gift Certificate," which can only be used at Zero Pay affiliated stores within the district, on the 17th.
The Jongno Love Gift Certificate is issued only in mobile form in three denominations: ▲10,000 KRW ▲50,000 KRW ▲100,000 KRW. It can be purchased, used, or gifted through dedicated applications such as CheckPay, MoneyTree, Bizplay, and NongHyup All One Bank.
To this end, the district signed an agreement with the sales agency "Korea Easy Payment Promotion Agency" on the 6th, marking the first such agreement in Seoul.
Individual consumers receive a 7% discount per person and can purchase up to 500,000 KRW per month at a discounted price. The gift certificates can be used at about 8,000 Zero Pay affiliated stores within Jongno-gu, including the five major convenience stores (CU, GS25, 7-Eleven, Ministop, Emart24), neighborhood supermarkets, restaurants, academies, hospitals, small franchises, and various retail businesses. However, they cannot be used at department stores, large shopping centers, or entertainment and luxury businesses.
The existing paper gift certificates had issues such as the inconvenience of consumers and sellers having to visit banks to purchase and exchange certificates, as well as widespread illegal distribution.
However, the new mobile Jongno Love Gift Certificate allows both consumers and sellers to conveniently use it through smartphone apps with almost no distribution costs.
Additionally, if consumers request a refund within 7 days of non-use, they can receive a full refund of the purchase amount, and if more than 60% of the face value has been used, the remaining balance can also be refunded.
Furthermore, during special sales periods such as the initial issuance or around holidays, an additional 3% discount is offered, providing an opportunity to purchase the gift certificates at a total discount of 10%.
District Mayor Kim Young-jong said, "The Jongno Love Gift Certificate, issued for the first time in Seoul under the Zero Pay environment, aims to provide discounts and income tax deductions to citizens with light wallets, while fully exempting payment fees for local small business owners to support increased sales." He added, "The district will continue to spare no effort to help local small business owners amid the difficult economic environment."
