Due to the popularity of nuts... Last year during the holidays, sales of dried food gift sets surpassed those of livestock products
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] During last year's Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays, sales of 'dry food gift sets' such as nuts surpassed those of 'livestock gift sets.'
According to Lotte Mart on the 8th, the sales composition ratio of dry food sets and livestock sets during the 2018 Lunar New Year was 47.9% and 52.1%, respectively, with livestock sets leading in sales. However, during last year's Lunar New Year, the sales ratio reversed to 51.8% for dry foods and 48.2% for livestock. Similarly, during Chuseok, the gap widened with dry foods at 52.2% and livestock at 47.8%.
Lotte Mart attributes the dry food gift sets surpassing the traditionally strong livestock sets to the recent increase in consumer interest in health, leading to greater consumption of nutrient-rich nuts.
Sales of nut gift sets have recorded an average annual growth rate of over 20% compared to the previous year over the past three years (2017?2019). In 2019, sales of dry food sets increased by approximately 8.2% compared to the previous year, while sales of livestock gift sets decreased by about 1.5%.
Additionally, due to the influence of the Act on the Prohibition of Improper Solicitation and Graft, customers who wanted to purchase water sets chose relatively lower-priced nut gift sets, which is analyzed as another factor.
Meanwhile, as the popularity of nut gift sets rises, Lotte Mart is offering the nut gift set ‘Maeil Nuts Haruhanbong 100 Packs’ at half the regular price of 29,900 won exclusively to L.Point customers for this Lunar New Year gift set.
The ‘Maeil Nuts Haruhanbong 100 Packs’ set is characterized by its composition of premium nuts, carefully selected popular nuts such as roasted almonds, walnuts, cashews, and raisins, sold at 299 won per pack.
Although last year’s crop yields of major nuts like California almonds and walnuts were poor, leading to an expected 10?20% increase in imported nut prices compared to average years, Lotte Mart was able to offer the product at the lowest price level among similar products by reducing production costs and minimizing expenses through securing supply volumes in advance from production areas.
