The 'Compact Massager' First Tried by 2030... Popular as Chuseok and Seollal Gifts for Parents
Emart, Bulk Sale of 3 Everyday National Price Items
[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] As the home massage device market continues to grow, small massage devices that provide massage for specific body parts are gaining popularity as holiday gifts.
Emart announced on the 8th that it will sell a large quantity of three Everyday National Price small massage devices, which were introduced last October, about two weeks before the Lunar New Year.
The ‘Electroman Basic Neck and Shoulder Massager (29,800 KRW)’, which sold out all planned units in the month of release, has doubled its stock to a total of 6,000 units. The ‘Electroman Calf and Foot Massager (178,000 KRW)’ and the ‘Electroman Foot Massager (79,800 KRW)’ have also significantly increased their quantities from 1,000 and 2,000 units to 4,000 units each.
These products were launched after Emart buyers and sourcing managers, focusing on the growth potential of the small massage device market, discovered excellent partners at the ‘Canton Fair’, China’s largest export expo in the second quarter of last year. They are priced up to 30% cheaper compared to similar products on the market.
Emart prepared a large stock of small massage devices for the holiday season because sales of small massage devices have been steadily increasing, and demand for related products peaks around the holidays. In fact, while Emart’s massage chair sales grew slightly by 1.5% compared to the same period last year, sales of small massage devices increased by 80% compared to 2018. Monthly sales were highest in September, when Chuseok falls, and from late January to early February, when Seollal takes place, followed by May, the month of family.
In particular, in September last year, the proportion of small massage device sales in total health appliance sales reached about 12%, three times higher than the previous year. The number of small massage device products sold at Emart also increased significantly from 8 types in 2018 to about 20 types in 2019.
The reason small massage devices are popular is that they are drastically cheaper than massage chairs and have a small size, making them highly space-efficient. Functional products that allow focused massage on desired areas and provide muscle exercise effects have also been released. They are well received by the younger generation, which has a high proportion of 1-2 person households, and cases of gifting small massage devices to parents have increased.
Reflecting this trend, Emart will showcase various products and hold discount events by category until the 29th. Representative products include the ‘Cluck Mini Massager S (King-size Pad 2-pack)’ and the ‘Oa Traveler Wireless Neck Cushion Massager’, which will be sold at 59,800 KRW and 29,800 KRW respectively, with a 20,000 KRW discount when paying with event cards.
