Minister Kang Kyung-wha Meets with Head of Zainichi Mindan, "Continued Efforts to Improve Korea-Japan Relations"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 7th, Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha met with Yeogeon, head of the Korean Residents Union in Japan (hereinafter referred to as Zainichi Mindan), along with nine executives, to exchange opinions on efforts to improve Korea-Japan relations and the current status of the Korean community in Japan.
On the same day, Minister Kang explained the government's efforts and current status for improving Korea-Japan relations, expressed regret over the difficulties faced by the Korean residents in Japan due to the strained relations between the two countries, and stated that efforts to improve Korea-Japan relations will continue.
In response, Yeogeon emphasized that recently, the number of Korean tourists to Tsushima Island has significantly decreased, causing difficulties for Koreans and Japanese engaged in the tourism industry, and expressed hope that exchanges at the private sector level between the two countries will be restored.

An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained, "Minister Kang evaluated the efforts made by Zainichi Mindan to enhance the rights and interests of the Korean community in Japan, including responses to anti-Korean speeches, and requested that Zainichi Mindan respond well to environmental changes such as diversification of members due to an increase in new residents and naturalized citizens, as well as generational change."
