They also urged the conservative political sphere to unify public sentiment.
Lee Gap-san, the standing representative of the Pan-Citizen Social Coalition, said at the New Year's event held on the 7th at the Press Center International Conference Hall, "The economy of the common people is collapsing, and the hearts of the people are bruised, yet recently President Moon said that 'economic indicators have improved.'"
He added, "I don't know who the economic advisor that gave such information is. I hope they are immediately dismissed. If not, President Moon could burn to death by the spirit of the candlelight protests, which he wields like an invincible weapon," issuing a warning. Earlier, Lee made similar remarks at a meeting with civic group leaders invited by the Blue House in early April.
Lee pointed out, "Last October, students from Seoul National University, Korea University, Yonsei University, and Pusan National University held candlelight protests. They were protests demanding the dismissal of Cho Kuk," and said, "I said he could burn to death by the candlelight protests, and eventually, that happened."
He also criticized conservative politicians for failing to unite public sentiment. He said, "Why can't the conservative political sphere of the Republic of Korea resolve this anger-filled heart of the people? Why can't they unite it as one?" He added, "This is a major fault of conservative politicians. I ask the conservative political leaders present here today and the heads of conservative civic groups gathered to create alternatives." Attending the New Year's event were prominent conservative figures associated with unification discussions, including Kim Moo-sung, former leader of the Liberty Korea Party; Cho Kyung-tae, senior supreme council member of the Korea Party; Lee Eon-ju, preparatory committee chair of the Forward 4.0 Party; Park Hyung-joon, co-chair of the Platform Liberty and Republic; and Choi In-sik, preparatory committee chair of the Proportional Korea Party.
