Seocho-gu New Residents Allowed to Use Other Regions' Volume-Based Waste Bags
All Pay-As-You-Throw Bags Nationwide, Including Seoul Districts, Usable Without Sticker Attachment or Other Procedures
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seocho-gu (Mayor Eunhee Cho) announced that, as part of its policy to ease regulations affecting people's livelihoods, it will allow the disposal of waste using volume-based waste bags from all regions nationwide.
From this year, residents who have moved to Seocho-gu can use the volume-based waste bags they had left from their previous area as is. Without the cumbersome procedures such as attaching separate stickers or exchanging bags, disposal using waste bags from other regions is now possible.
Seocho-gu removed the regional usage restrictions on volume-based waste bags to enhance convenience for residents who have moved into the district. It is expected that the convenience felt by residents will outweigh the costs of processing waste bags from other regions.
According to the principle of volume-based waste disposal, where the waste producer bears the disposal cost, the price of the waste bags purchased by consumers includes the waste disposal fee, which means that waste bags can only be disposed of in the area where they were purchased. Because of this specificity, until now, disposal of volume-based waste bags was only allowed among the 25 autonomous districts of Seoul.
This time, Seocho-gu has expanded the allowance for disposal of volume-based waste bags not only within Seoul's autonomous districts but also to local governments nationwide.
Along with this, Seocho-gu has integrated the volume-based waste bags, which were previously produced and used separately in five different zones, into a single type for the entire Seocho-gu area, allowing purchase and use anywhere within Seocho-gu.
