Firefighting Efforts for Wildfire in Balsan-ri, Chuncheon... Six Helicopters and Over 160 Personnel Deployed
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-gyu Lee] On the morning of the 5th, six helicopters and over 160 personnel continued firefighting efforts to extinguish the wildfire that broke out on the afternoon of the 4th in Balsan-ri, Sinbuk-eup, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do.
The Gangwon-do Wildfire Prevention Headquarters, along with forestry and firefighting authorities, deployed six helicopters?including four forestry helicopters and one each from firefighting and military authorities?and over 160 personnel to the site for firefighting operations that morning.
The Balsan-ri wildfire occurred around 1:54 PM the previous day. Firefighting and military authorities deployed four helicopters and about 80 personnel to combat the fire, but steep slopes and smoke-filled valleys made extinguishing efforts difficult. They withdrew at sunset with about 60% containment.

Overnight, firefighting vehicles and personnel were stationed at various points to establish an emergency nighttime defense line to prevent the wildfire from spreading. The Gangwon-do Wildfire Prevention Headquarters estimates that approximately 3 hectares of forest land were burned until withdrawal at sunset the previous day. Since there were no strong winds overnight, the fire did not spread significantly, and it is expected to be extinguished soon.
