Gangseo-gu Selected for the Ministry of Health and Welfare's '2020·2021 Regional Specialized Medical Technology and Attraction Infrastructure Enhancement Project' Competition, Secures 200 Million KRW in National Funding

The Miracle Continues in Gangseo-gu Miracle Medi Special Zone

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) announced on the 3rd that the Gangseo Miracle Medi Special Zone was finally selected in the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s ‘2020, 2021 Regional Specialized Medical Technology and Attraction Base Enhancement Project’ competition.

Following the award of the Prime Minister’s Institutional Commendation in the ‘2019 Regional Special Zone Operation Performance Evaluation’ last December, the district has achieved another great accomplishment.

This competition was conducted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, divided into two categories: discovering regionally representative specialized medical technologies and strengthening local government attraction bases to promote foreign patient attraction. Final selection was made through first-stage (Seoul City) and second-stage (Ministry of Health and Welfare) evaluations.

The district ranked first in the comprehensive evaluation by receiving high marks for the differentiated brand and storytelling of the Miracle Medi Special Zone aimed at activating foreign patient attraction, as well as various promotional marketing efforts.

In particular, it gained additional significance by being selected in the first competition after changing to a two-year support method to promote projects with mid- to long-term planning and continuity.

The secured national funding will be used for establishing and discovering public-private cooperation systems and revitalizing medical tourism through ▲ fam tours ▲ interpretation and translation support ▲ domestic and international promotional marketing.

The district plans to further strengthen specialized medical technologies for infertility and spine/joint treatment, and expand foreign patient attraction centered on Ewha Seoul Hospital, which has an international medical center, to revitalize the local economy and create jobs.

Gangseo-gu Mayor Noh Hyun-song said, “With the selection in this competition project, a continuous growth engine for the Miracle Medi Special Zone project has been secured,” and added, “We will achieve practical local economic revitalization and job creation through the expansion of foreign patient attraction.”

The Gangseo Miracle Medi Special Zone has been selected in a total of seven competitions from 2012 to this competition, securing a total of 850 million KRW in national funding.
