LG Twins Player Booked on Assault Charges for Attacking Citizen Who Tried to Stop Fight with Girlfriend... Refuses to Testify Due to Intoxication
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Gayeon] A current professional baseball player was booked by the police for assaulting a citizen who tried to intervene during an argument with his girlfriend.
The Yongsan Police Station in Seoul announced on the 2nd that they have detained and are investigating LG Twins player A (26) on charges of assault.
A is accused of repeatedly hitting the face of victim B near an apartment in Ichon-dong, Yongsan-gu, around 1:40 a.m. on the 29th of last month.
At the time, B reportedly called the police stating that he was assaulted while trying to break up a fight between a man and a woman.
The police who arrived at the scene took A to the police box for voluntary questioning, but since A was intoxicated and refused to give a statement, they confirmed his identity and allowed him to go home.
The police plan to summon A again as a suspect for further investigation.
Meanwhile, according to Yonhap News, A joined the LG Twins in 2013 and debuted in the first team in 2018.
Regarding this, the LG Twins reportedly stated, "We will consider future measures after reviewing the police investigation results."
The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) also told the media, "Assault cases are subject to review by the disciplinary committee," adding, "We will decide whether to hold a disciplinary committee meeting based on the (police investigation) results."
