[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Park Jung-ho, CEO of SK Telecom, urged leading 'innovation' based on artificial intelligence (AI) to welcome the Year of the Rat 2020 (Gyeongja Year).
On the 2nd, Park held a New Year's meeting at SK Telecom's Euljiro headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul, with all SK ICT family companies including SK Broadband, ADT Caps, and 11st participating, and stated, "Let's innovate business and work culture based on AI," adding, "We will take 'Mobile Network Operator (MNO)' and 'New Biz' as two major growth engines to become a genuine ICT convergence company," expressing his aspirations for the new year.
Park said, "The ICT sector is changing at a speed beyond imagination," diagnosing that "If we do not prepare in advance, we cannot reap the benefits of the great changes in the future." He emphasized, "We must consider solutions not only to respond to internal and external environmental changes but also to address social side effects caused by these changes."
He then urged leading innovation based on 'imagination' that surpasses and expands the present in AI, digital transformation (DT), and 5G. He proposed, "AI and DT can serve as the driving force of innovation," and "Let's radically change not only business but also work methods and culture by introducing AI into all tasks."
Park also urged, "Based on this, we must work with society to address social challenges such as the 'aging society' and become a company that proactively presents solutions through ICT innovation." He added, "To optimally support the new business portfolio created so far, we introduced a 'Dual OS' in the company organization," and "Based on this, we will grow not only mobile communications, media, security, and commerce but also AI, mobility, advertising, and data businesses."
SK Telecom introduced the 'Dual OS' in December last year, a dual system that provides customized support for 'MNO' and 'New Biz' respectively. The plan is to maximize performance by taking New Biz as the next-generation growth engine in addition to the existing telecommunications business leading industries and markets centered on 5G.
Park said, "The innovation that 5G will bring this year will be much deeper and richer," and "Based on this, we will continue ultra-collaboration to strengthen partnerships not only with global giants but also with small and medium-sized enterprises."
