Teenagers from Non-Snow Countries Experience Winter Sports in Pyeongchang
Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Holds Dream Program with Gangwon Province and 2018 Pyeongchang Foundation
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 2nd that it will hold the '2020 Dream Program' from the 6th to the 18th at Alpensia in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province, and Gangneung Hockey Center.
The Dream Program is a project that invites youth from countries without snow to Korea to experience winter sports and Korean culture. The Pyeongchang Olympic Memorial Foundation plans to introduce new elements this year, including the slogan "Bigger Dreams for the Future Generation!", a new emblem, and operational programs, with 123 participants from 29 countries worldwide.
Starting this year, participation has expanded beyond athletes to include those aspiring to specialize in international sports diplomacy, as well as general individuals interested in the Korean language and culture. In addition to the existing winter sports 'Experience Class' and 'Academy Class,' an advanced 'Top-level Training Class' has been newly established. Customized educational programs by skill level will be offered for five snow sports (skiing, para-skiing, snowboarding, para-snowboarding, and bobsleigh, which is newly added this year) and two ice sports (figure skating and short track). Coaching education for instructors will also be newly supported. Beyond winter sports training, representative Korean cultural lessons and competition programs such as K-pop dance and Taekwonmu (martial arts dance) will be operated.
