[김맹녕의 골프영어산책] '영어로 배우는 에티켓'

동전으로 마크할 때에는 손이 공에 닿지 않도록 해야 한다.

'골퍼가 지켜야 할 10가지 에티켓'이다.

미국에서 발간된 골프 핸드북(The Golf Handbook)에 소개됐다. 골퍼들에게는 반드시 필요한 내용이지만 알면서도 실행 못하는 경우가 많다. 영어공부를 겸해 다시 한 번 되새기면서 매너있는 골퍼가 되었으면 하는 바람이다. ▲ Don't walk or move while others are playing= 동반자가 플레이할 때 걷거나 움직이지 말라.

▲ Let the players behind you play through if you are holding them up= 뒷 조의 진행에 방해되는 상황이라면 서슴없이 먼저 나가게 하라.

▲ If you go into a bunker, always enter it from the back and never down the face. Rake the bunker well to smooth over your footprints= 벙커에 들어갈 때는 반드시 뒤쪽에서 진입해야 한다. 샷을 한 뒤 발자국은 고무래로 잘 정리해야 한다. ▲ Replace divots and repair pitch marks on the green= 떨어진 잔디는 원지점에 갖다놓는다. 그린 위의 볼 자국도 수리하라.

▲ On the green, don't walk on the line of another player's putt= 그린 위에서 남의 퍼팅 라인을 밟지 말라. 퍼팅 시 공의 방향이 바뀔 수 있기 때문이다.

▲ Never get ahead of a player, and never turn your back on that player= 절대로 플레이어보다 앞서가지 말고 뒤돌아서지 말라.

▲ Don't mark your card on the green or even by the green after finishing the hole= 홀아웃 후 그린 위에서나 옆에서 스코어카드를 적지 말라.

▲ Wait until the players in front are out of range. When hitting to the green, wait till they have cleared it= 앞 조가 안전권으로 갈 때까지 기다려라. 그린을 향해 공을 칠 경우 그린이 빌 때까지 기다려라.

▲ If it looks like your ball might hit someone ahead or on a adjacent hole, shout "Fore!"= 자기가 친 공이 앞 팀 골퍼나 인근 사람을 때릴 수 있는 험한 경우 "포어!"라고 외쳐라.

▲ When marking on the green, use a small coin or ball marker and place it behind the ball before picking it up. When replacing it, put the ball down in exactly the spot it came from and then pick up the marker= 그린 위에서 자신의 공을 마크할 때는 작은 동전이나 마커를 사용한다. 공을 원위치에 놓을 때는 정확한 위치에 공을 놓은 뒤 마커를 집어 올려라.
