Thriller “Helpless” debuts at No. 1 on weekend box office

Korean movie “Helpless” made its debut at No. 1 on the weekend box office in the country on the second week of March, according to KOBIS (Korean Box Office Information System) on Monday.

Actor Lee Sun-kyun and actress Kim Min-hee’s starrer “Helpless” topped the chart only three days after its premiere on March 8, attracting 607,463 moviegoers and grossing 4.7 million won between March 9 and 11.The new thriller “Helpless” is adopted from the Japanese mystery novel “All She Was Worth,” written by novelist Miyabe Miuyuki. It delves into the story of a woman named Sun-young (Kim) who suddenly disappears just a few days before her wedding with Moon-ho, played by Lee.

Hollywood flick “John Carter” came next in the No. 2 spot with 368,753 ticket sales during the same period and "Love Fiction" placed in third by selling 252,098 tickets, sliding down two spots from last weekend due to the fast success of “Helpless.”

In addition, Reese Witherspoon starrer “This Means War,” which opened in local theaters on February 29, came in fourth place while “War on Crime: the Golden Age of Bad Guys,” which has been going neck-on-neck at No. 1 with “Howling” in February, came in fifth.Other movies in the top ten list include “Stanley’s Tiffin Box,” “Howling,” Legends of Valhalla - THOR,” “Safe House” and “Dancing Queen."
