Top Hollywood actor Al Pacino will visit Korea next month, a press release by the Gwangju Metropolitan City said Wednesday.

On August 26, Pacino will take part in an event in Seoul celebrating the Gwangju Advanced Media Corporation (GAMCO) setting up a studio in Gwangju.GAMCO is a corporation established jointly by U.S.'s K2EON and Gwangju, the latter which has become the first in Korea to be designated an investment promotional district for culture-related businesses.

Then the following day, Pacino will visit Gwangju itself and visit the site of the studio, meet with Gwangju Mayor Kang Un-tae and interview with media outlets.

Pacino, 71, is one of the most widely recognized actors in the world with a number of awards under his belt. He made his major breakthrough after starring in "The Godfather" trilogy starting 1972 which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor and a number of nominations thereafter.

His role as Frank Slade in "Scent of a Woman" won him the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1992 and he has appeared in more than two dozen movies since.
