A new theme park for Korean historical dramas has been established in Korea's Yongin City of Gyeonggi Province, announced public broadcaster MBC on Wednesday.

According to a press release by MBC, an opening ceremony for the theme park named DRAMIA took place yesterday, attended by MBC’s vice president Ahn Kwang-han, Yongin’s Mayor Kim Hak-kyu and other related officials. DRAMIA, whose name is a combination of 'drama' and 'utopia' and covers over 840,000 pyeong of land in Yongin, consists of various buildings and sites that have served as the background to many hit historical dramas by MBC such as “Dong Yi - Jewel in the Crown,” “Queen Seon-deok,” “Yi San” and “The Duo” as well as other films TV productions.

“DRAMIA is the result of joint efforts between MBC and Yongin City...... We will further upgrade this place by adding more Hanoks (Korean traditional building), guesthouses and a traditional marketplace," vice-president Ahn was quoted as saying in the statement while expressing his gratitude to the city for their cooperation.

The park, which is currently open only to foreign tourists, will be opened to locals around early September.※ Any copying, republication or redistribution of 10Asia's content is expressly prohibited without prior consent of 10Asia.
