Actor Joo Won to play male lead in new KBS TV series

Korean actor Joo Won has been cast for his second small screen role, playing the male lead in an upcoming KBS weekend series opposite songstress UIE of girl group After School.

On Wednesday, a press release from the show's promoter 3HW confirmed that Joo Won will play a couple's third son who is a cop named Hwang Tae-hee in KBS's drama "Golden Pond" (translated titled) which will premiere on August 6. This will be Joo Won's second role on the small screen following his appearance in KBS's hit baking series "Bread, Love and Dreams" last year.

"We felt that UIE and Joo Won have shown they are actors with unlimited potential through their previous roles," an official from production company Chorokbaem Media was quoted as saying.

"Golden Pond," to be helmed by director Ki Min-soo and written by Lee Jung-sun, will tell of Baek Ji-eun (UIE) who suddenly appears on the farm that is run by a couple and their four sons. The remainder of the main cast have yet to be decided on.Born Moon Joon-won, Joo Won first started out in the entertainment industry in 2006 through musical "Altar Boys."

He has also starred in musicals "Singles," "Grease" and "Spring Awakening" and expanded his career onto the small screen through "Bread, Love and Dreams" and recently starred in horror film "Don't Click" alongside actress Park Bo-young.
