Korean singer Jang Woo-hyuk has been cast in an upcoming Taiwanese drama, according to his agency WH Entertainment.

"Jang will play the male lead in a drama in Taiwan and will leave for the country to begin filming for it sometime in July," an official from WH told 10Asia over the phone on Monday, although declining to mention further information about his role or the series. Jang began his career in 1996 as a rapper in the now-disbanded idol group H.O.T which was one of the hottest bands during the 1990s.

The singer started his solo career in 2005 and expanded his activities into China last year after completing his two-year mandatory military service and signing with Chinese entertainment firm Huayi Brothers Media Group.

In China so far, he has held a concert, opened his official fan club and attended many award ceremonies including the annual Southeast Music Ranking Awards last December where he won the award for Best Foreign Artist. He recently made his return to the local music scene with title track "Time Is (L)over" from his third-mini album "I am the Future."
