Korean supermodel Jang Yoon-ju has been chosen to host new reality show "Korea's Next Top Model" (KNTM), according to cable broadcaster OnStyle on Friday.
OnStyle explained in a press release that the model-turned-singer and songwriter will be hosting and serving as one of the judges on KNTM, the local version of popular U.S. TV show "America's Next Top Model", created and produced by American supermodel Tyra Banks."She is the representative model of Korea, has a variety of experience in television and has a great sense of style as well as charisma," an official at OnStyle was quoted as saying. "We thought she was the perfect person to host the Korean version of the show."
The model shared her excitement over the news as well. "I was a big fan of 'America's Next Top Model' so I am very honored and excited to take part in such a huge project," adding that she will do her best to "play the mentor role and help contestants obtain the necessary skills and senses as a top model."
The show begins with a select number of aspiring models competing against one another on a weekly fashion challenge. As the show's judges evaluate each contestant and their photographs, the model with the least potential is sent home every week. The final winner will be awarded KRW 100 million won in prize money, a photo spread in fashion magazine W Korea, plus other benefits. OnStyle recently selected a total of 24 finalists after holding four rounds of evaluation on numerous applicants. The finalists will be announced this afternoon on Korea's social networking and micro-blogging site me2DAY (me2day.net).
Jang, 28, is a veteran model who made her debut in the industry in 1997. Known for her unique Asian look and strong runway walk, she has worked with some of the top fashion designers and photographers in Korea.
She has also authored a style book, hosted a TV show which introduces movies and released her first album in November 2008.
KNTM, which will start shooting this summer, is set to premiere in September.
