Songwriter Kim Hyung-seok to produce Chinese music show

Famed Korean songwriter Kim Hyung-seok has been tapped to produce a music audition show titled "Super Boys" for China's Hunan TV, the Chinese broadcaster announced on Wednesday.

At a press conference for "Boys," held yesterday afternoon in Beijing, it was revealed that Kim was named the chief producer for the show who will be in charge of stage direction, vocals, choreography and styling. "We invited Kim because we respect his musical talent," an official at Hunan TV was quoted as saying. "He has written hit songs for numerous singers such as Sung Si-kyung and Shin Seung-hun and the theme song "I Believe" from the film "My Sassy Girl", which was popular in China."

"Boys" is the male version of popular Chinese television show "Super Girls", which attracted over five million applicants and scored a viewership rating of 45 percent.

The show, to be broadcast from June thru August, will select ten teams for the finals out of some 300 groups that have made the preliminary round of auditions. Kim, 43, is considered one of the most prominent producers in the Korean pop music industry. He has penned numerous hit songs for many K-pop artists including BoA, Jo Sung-mo, Kim Gun-mo, Kim Tae-woo and Park Jin-young.

He has also established a music academy in Korea named "K-Note" to foster music talents.
