Tae Jin-ah tops Japan's music request chart


Korea's veteran trot singer Tae Jin-ah seems to be making headway into the Japanese music industry, topping Japan's music request chart this week.

The singer, who had recently announced he would expand his career into Japan, reached No.1 on Japan's cable request chart Tuesday with his debut single "I'm Sorry".Tae also performed the song on NHK music program "Gayo Concert", which aired live at the NHK Hall the same day. "Gayo Concert", a popular program with a 15 percent average viewership rating, features Japan's enka singers.

The 56-year-old singer has collaborated with famous songwriter Hama Keisuke, who has written hits for Korean-born enka singer Kye Eun-sook.

Tae Jin-ah, whose real name is Jo Bang Hun, is considered one of the most successful and long-running singers in Korea. He is the father of K-pop singer and songwriter Eru.Tae will hold his first solo concert in Japan on December 7-8.
