The diverse culinary applications of Seongju chamoe melon are attracting consumer attention.
On May 13, Seongju-gun, North Gyeongsang Province, announced that during the 2026 Seongju Chamoe & Life Culture Festival (May 14–17), a promotional tasting event and consumer preference survey will be held at the food market, featuring the dining menu 'Chamoe Mustard Salad' made with Seongju chamoe melon.
At the event, the new side dish menu 'Chamoe Mustard Salad' will be presented to visitors, and consumer feedback will be collected.
A 'Chamoe Mustard Salad Meal Kit,' developed for easy preparation at home, will also be launched and sold during the festival.
Additionally, at the Korean Food Research Association's experience booth, visitors will be able to participate in a sandwich-making activity using 'Chamoe Rapee,' introducing various culinary methods for utilizing chamoe melon.
The 'Chamoe Mustard Salad' menu was developed in 2025 through a field-oriented joint research project conducted with the Gyeongsangbuk-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services.
This promotional tasting event is being held as part of the 'Development and Distribution of Dining Menus Using Seongju Chamoe' project, which aims to standardize agricultural product processing technologies in 2026.
In particular, last year, the 'Chamoe Mustard Salad' menu was offered at five local restaurants, where a consumer preference survey was conducted. Based on the positive response, this year, the distribution will be expanded by selecting nine establishments—including restaurants, side dish shops, and food manufacturers—for technology transfer and menu dissemination.
Kim Juseop, Director of the Seongju Agricultural Technology Center, stated, "We hope this event will serve as an opportunity to expand chamoe melon consumption from mainly fresh fruit to various recipes and dining menus, thereby enhancing its added value. We also expect that the development of more chamoe-based side dishes and menus by local dining establishments will further raise Seongju-gun's profile as Korea's leading chamoe-producing region."
