Jang Sungkyu Says "Don't Even Mention the 'S' in Samsung... Bought at 80,000 Won, Sold at 60,000 Won"

Reveals Conversation with Online Follower

Broadcaster Jang Sungkyu has shared his story of investment failure involving Samsung Electronics stock. He revealed that he suffered significant losses in the past because he sold his shares too quickly.

On May 12, Jang posted a conversation with a fan, who appeared to be an online follower, on his Instagram account. According to the conversation, the fan asked Jang, "Is now the right time for Samsung Electronics?" seeking investment advice. Jang replied, "I bought at 80,000 won and sold at 60,000 won," adding, "Don’t even mention the 'S' in Samsung Electronics."

By posting this screenshot, Jang commented, "Even though you mentioned 'S,' since you’re a witty younger friend, I’m sharing this," and added, "May all of our lives be on an upward trajectory."

The stock price of Samsung Electronics remained in the 60,000 won range early last year but soared rapidly from the end of that year, reaching 284,000 won as of the closing price on May 13. This surge is attributed to skyrocketing prices for memory semiconductors, which are Samsung Electronics’ main product, driven by the AI boom.

Meanwhile, other celebrities have also shared their own experiences investing in Samsung Electronics. Broadcaster Lee Kyungshil said on a YouTube show that "I bought Samsung Electronics at 70,000 won, but as it kept falling, I sold it when it returned to my original purchase price," adding, "Now, I don’t even want to look at Samsung Electronics stock." In another example, broadcaster Kim Gura surprised fans by revealing that he once bought Samsung Electronics shares at 45,000 won.

Actress Jeon Wonju also recounted her experience of buying SK hynix stock when the price was 20,000 won. On tvN’s 'You Quiz on the Block' in December last year, when asked how she came to purchase SK hynix shares, she advised, "You have to find joy in patience, not in spending. The company has to be strong. Look at the face of the person responsible," and advised, "Find someone who lives gently, kindly, and uprightly."
