Jeonnam Province addressed concerns raised by some regarding the potential flooding of the main venue for the Yeosu World Island Expo, explaining that an on-site inspection confirmed the issue was not a structural flooding problem but rather a temporary accumulation of water on certain sections of the connecting road. The province stated that maintenance would be completed by June.
On May 13, Jeonnam Province announced, "Certain sections of the connecting road at Jinmo District, the main venue of the Yeosu World Island Expo, experienced temporary water pooling due to partial subsidence resulting from the characteristics of the soft ground." The province added, "It was confirmed that there are no problems with the drainage facilities themselves."

The province explained that, following related reports in April, it conducted an on-site inspection together with Yeosu City and the Organizing Committee for the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, thoroughly checking the condition of the road and the operation of the drainage facilities.
Accordingly, Jeonnam Province plans to carry out supplementary paving work, such as overlaying asphalt concrete, on the affected section by June. The province expects that once the work is completed, the drainage function will be restored and the water accumulation issue will be resolved.
The province also noted that water pooling observed at the main venue construction site resulted from a stage prior to road paving, and that site conditions will improve once the paving process is finished.
Going forward, Jeonnam Province, together with Yeosu City and the Organizing Committee, will maintain a continuous inspection system for all roads and drainage facilities until the event opens, and will strengthen safety management measures to prepare for summer disasters such as typhoons and heavy rainfall.
