Jo Jung-sik, a six-term lawmaker from the Democratic Party of Korea, has been elected as the Speaker of the National Assembly for the latter half of the 22nd National Assembly.
On May 13, 2026, the Democratic Party announced that it held a general assembly at the National Assembly and elected Assemblyman Jo as the next Speaker.
The election for the Speaker of the National Assembly was a three-way race among Park Ji-won (five terms), Jo Jung-sik (six terms), and Kim Tae-nyeon (five terms) (in ballot order). However, Assemblyman Jo, the most senior among them, secured a majority in the first round of voting and was immediately elected.
Nam In-soon was elected as the Deputy Speaker representing the ruling party.
