The People Power Party has decided not to field candidates for the mayoral race in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province, and the county governor race in Geochang, South Gyeongsang Province, in the 9th nationwide local elections. For the National Assembly by-elections held concurrently with the local elections, the party has also decided not to nominate candidates for the Gunsan, Gimje, and Buan constituencies in North Jeolla Province.
On May 13, Park Deokhum, Chairman of the Nomination Management Committee, announced at the party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, "We did not conduct additional recruitment for the by-elections for the mayor of Siheung, Gyeonggi Province, and the National Assembly seats in Gunsan, Gimje, and Buan, North Jeolla Province."

Chairman Park explained, "Although the nomination review was transferred to the central party following the court's acceptance of an injunction request on May 4, there continue to be intense conflicts with the candidate, as well as ongoing investigations due to related complaints and lawsuits. Therefore, it is not possible to reopen the candidate registration, and instead of making a forced nomination, we have decided to leave the decision to the wisdom of the people."
On this day, the Nomination Management Committee recommended Cha Seokho as the sole candidate for the Haman County governor race in South Gyeongsang Province and Kang Wondeok as the sole candidate for the Uiryeong County governor race. Chairman Park stated, "Candidate Cha is an administrative expert whose political acumen has been verified through many years of public service, while Candidate Kang is a locally engaged leader who, through years of on-the-ground work, has built a strong rapport with the residents and has a deep understanding of Uiryeong's pressing issues and economic situation."
