Damyang County in Jeonnam Province is accelerating efforts to establish 'Solar Income Villages,' a project designed to generate new sources of income for rural communities through collective village solar power generation.
On May 13, Damyang County announced that it will hold a 'Solar Income Village Project Briefing Session' at 2:00 p.m. on May 20 at the main auditorium of the Dambit Agricultural Center. The event aims to revitalize the local economy and promote the adoption of renewable energy.
This briefing session is targeted at village cooperatives and community stakeholders. The head of the Jeonnam Solar Income Promotion Team will be invited to explain the concept and necessity of Solar Income Villages, while also providing customized consultations and information to encourage participation in the 2026 public contest, thereby enhancing understanding of the project.
The 'Solar Income Village' model involves village cooperatives installing and operating solar power facilities on communal land, with the profits generated being used as a village community fund. This structure is gaining attention as a new source of income for rural areas.
The county plans to use this event to raise awareness among residents about Solar Income Villages and proactively support preparations for the public contest, concentrating administrative resources so that more villages can benefit from the initiative.
An official from the county stated, "Solar Income Villages are an innovative project that can simultaneously address the climate crisis and improve village welfare. We hope this briefing session will serve as a stepping stone toward self-sustaining villages where residents directly produce energy and share the resulting profits."
