Woo Jaejun: "Appointed as Election Committee Chair Without Consent... Is This the Right Attitude for Building One Team?"

"Party Leadership Must Make Efforts for Unity"

Woo Jaejun, Supreme Council Member of the People Power Party, on May 13 urged the party leadership to make efforts for party unity after he was appointed as a co-chair of the election campaign committee without prior consultation.

Speaking to reporters after a general assembly of lawmakers held at the National Assembly that day, Woo acknowledged, "I agree that our party needs to move forward as one team," but added, "Achieving that will require significant effort."

He stated, "There can be no precedent for appointing someone without seeking their consent," and pointed out, "I wish more opinions were gathered on how to compose the election campaign committee."

He continued, "There are 20 days left until the election. It will take great effort to unify," emphasizing, "Since there are people with differing views within the party, more careful efforts are needed in that regard."

Woo also commented on Chief Spokesperson Park Sunghoon's announcement that "Supreme Council members have, as a matter of tradition, automatically joined the election campaign committee, and if they refuse to participate, that decision will be respected." He said, "I would like to ask whether such an attitude is truly aimed at becoming one team."

He went on to say, "Currently, all those who have raised issues with Representative Jang Donghyuk have been excluded from the campaign committee," and asked, "Those who have criticized me also want the People Power Party to win, so why shouldn't they be included?"

Woo did not attend the election campaign committee's launch ceremony held that day. Regarding his future course of action, he said, "I will make a comprehensive judgment after considering how the leadership communicates going forward and how they intend to organize the campaign committee."
