A deep tech commercialization project based on national strategic technologies and regionally specialized technologies will be fully launched.
The Busan Research and Development Special Zone Headquarters (Head Hansang Moon) of the Innopolis Foundation (Chairman Jung Hee-kwon) has begun supporting the growth of local deep tech companies and technology commercialization.
The Busan Research and Development Special Zone Headquarters announced on the 13th that it held the "2026 Special Zone Development Project Kickoff Meeting" at the Busan Global Tech Biz Center on the 12th.
This year, the Busan Special Zone Development Project will focus on five main initiatives and 20 tasks, including the discovery and linkage of strategic technologies, commercialization of research outcomes in strategic technologies, the Innopolis Campus, design and demonstration projects for regional innovation, and demonstration scaling-up.
The Busan Special Zone Headquarters plans to strengthen its full-cycle support system by connecting not only the technology development phase but also demonstration, commercialization, investment, and entry into the global market.

View original imageThe supported sectors include national strategic technologies such as industrial innovation AI, secondary batteries, power semiconductors, software solutions, advanced materials, and regionally specialized technologies such as shipbuilding and marine systems.
The Busan Special Zone Headquarters will support technology advancement, prototype production, demonstration, and initial market entry, mainly centered on R&BD (Research and Business Development) for technology transfer based on research outcomes from public research institutes.
At the kickoff meeting, project principal investigators and representatives from implementing organizations attended and shared the project management direction, standards for research and development expenditure, and performance management plans. Additionally, networking was conducted to discover collaborative projects and share technology and market information among participating organizations.
The Busan Special Zone Headquarters also plans to strengthen its support system for technology leakage prevention and commercialization of new technologies by operating industrial technology protection training and regulatory sandbox-linked support programs.
Hansang Moon, Head of the Busan Research and Development Special Zone Headquarters, emphasized, "We will expand startups based on public technology and global technology commercialization to help local companies secure global competitiveness."
