Seoul National University Hospital announced on May 13 that it has appointed Namjong Baek, professor of rehabilitation medicine, as its 20th Director. His term will last three years, starting from the same day.

View original imageDirector Baek graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine in 1990 and completed his residency at Seoul National University Hospital. Since 2001, he has served as a professor at Seoul National University College of Medicine. At Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, he held various roles including Director of Public Relations, Director of Planning and Coordination, and Head of the Public Healthcare Center, before serving as Hospital Director.
In his research, he has focused on rehabilitation therapy and neuromodulation technologies for functional recovery in stroke patients. He is the first Korean to be elected as the next president of the World Federation for NeuroRehabilitation (WFNR) and is currently serving his term. He also serves as the inaugural president of the Asia-Oceanian Congress of NeuroRehabilitation (AOCNR) and as the first chairman of the Korean Telemedicine Society.
Additionally, he has served as Director of the Regional Cardiocerebral Rehabilitation Center and as Chair Professor of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Seoul National University College of Medicine.
The Director of Seoul National University Hospital is appointed by the President of South Korea upon the recommendation of the hospital board and nomination by the Minister of Education. The appointment is renewable once.
