Lifting a Person's Weight With Only Her Hair... Mexican Circus Performer Sets New Guinness World Record

Lifted about 20 kg more than the previous record
Six months of scalp, neck, and lower back endurance training

A circus performer in Mexico has set a new Guinness World Record by lifting more than 75 kg using only her hair. On May 8, Guinness World Records announced that Diana Elizabeth Batres Hermosillo, a circus performer from San Luis Potosi, Mexico, lifted 75.35 kg (166.11 pounds) in the category of 'heaviest weight lifted with hair (female),' establishing a new world record.

The attempt took place on February 28 at La Paz Theater in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. On stage, Diana tightly braided her long hair into two sections, tied the ends together, and attached them to a chain and carabiner. Six weight plates were suspended from the chain. According to Guinness World Records, Diana, in front of an audience, successfully lifted the plates off the ground and managed to keep the total weight of 75.35 kg suspended in the air for about 14 seconds. This record surpasses the previous mark of 55.6 kg, set by Indian weightlifter Asha Rani in 2014, by approximately 19.75 kg.

Diana has been performing as a circus artist for 26 years. Drawing on her experience in the 'hair hanging' act, where she supports her body with her hair while suspended in the air, she took on this Guinness challenge. She stated that she trained for about six months to prepare for the attempt. Since lifting heavy weights with her hair places significant pressure on her scalp, neck, and lower back, she explained that she underwent physical adaptation training to endure the strain.

Diana has worked as a circus performer for 26 years. Based on her experience performing "hair hanging," where she supports her body with her hair while suspended in the air, she is reported to be attempting a Guinness World Record this time.

During her training, Diana crafted a device herself using gym weight plates and chains that could be attached to her hair. She then gradually increased the weight and practiced under conditions similar to those of the actual attempt. Guinness World Records reported that after completing her official record challenge, Diana returned to the stage to give an additional performance, suspending her entire body in the air using only the ring attached to her hair.
