Gyeonggi Province is launching a program to cultivate ornamental fish care specialists.
The Gyeonggi-do Marine and Fisheries Resources Research Institute has announced that it will operate a “Basic Ornamental Fish Farming Education (Ornamental Fish Care Specialist Training)” course for local fish farmers and those interested in returning to the fishing industry, and is accepting applications for participation until May 22.
The program has been designed to help diversify fishermen's income and establish a stable foundation for fishery management. It will be held over two days, from May 28 to 29, at Aquapet Land in Siheung City.
The course covers a comprehensive range of theory and hands-on training on ornamental fish farming and management, including: ▲ the ornamental fish industry and current trends ▲ ornamental fish care products and facility management ▲ ornamental fish breeding and disease management ▲ basic ecology of ornamental fish species and packaging practice.
Upon completion of the program, participants will be eligible to take a certification exam to obtain the Ornamental Fish Care Specialist qualification.
Detailed information, including how to apply for the course, can be found on the Gyeonggi-do Marine and Fisheries Resources Research Institute website (fish.gg.go.kr) or by phone inquiry (031-8008-6517).
Kim Sung-gon, Director of the Gyeonggi-do Marine and Fisheries Resources Research Institute, stated, “The ornamental fish industry is a sector capable of generating high added value with relatively little space and equipment. We hope this program will help inland fish farmers discover new sources of income and strengthen their professional capabilities.”
