Gyeonggi Province to Significantly Strengthen Local Tax Delinquency Management... Expansion to 31 Cities and Counties

Gyeonggi Province will significantly strengthen its management of local tax delinquencies.
On May 13, Gyeonggi Provincial Government announced that, with the allocation of a 1.7 billion won budget for the "Local Tax Revenue Delinquency Management Team" through a supplementary budget on May 12, it will expand the team’s operations to all 31 cities and counties in the province starting in August. Currently, the management team is operated independently in only 13 cities and counties.
To this end, the province plans to hire 576 temporary workers this year who will focus on encouraging the payment of delinquent local taxes through field-based activities from August to November, a period of four months. Recruitment will be carried out according to criteria established by each city and county.
The Local Tax Revenue Delinquency Management Team is responsible for checking the living conditions and payment capabilities of delinquent taxpayers via phone consultations and on-site visits. The targets are those with small-scale delinquencies of less than 1 million won in local taxes, as well as those with minor non-tax delinquencies, including fines, penalties, or compulsory enforcement charges.
For livelihood-based delinquents who are unable to pay after on-site visits, the team will also provide installment payment consultations and connect them to welfare services.
Moving beyond simple collection-focused administration, the province plans to pursue "inclusive delinquency management" by linking welfare support. If a household in need of assistance is identified during field investigations, the team will coordinate with municipal and county welfare departments to provide tailored support. For delinquents with the ability to pay, the province will strengthen collection activities in connection with delinquency disposition procedures.
Cho Byeongrae, Director General of Autonomy Administration at Gyeonggi Provincial Government, stated, "The core role of the management team is conducting on-site surveys focused on small-scale delinquents. During these investigations, we will proactively identify households in crisis and, for livelihood-based delinquents, provide both welfare support and collection activities. Gyeonggi Province is committed to strengthening efforts in both collection and public welfare support."
