Choi, who is the Vice President of the Korean Federation of Teachers’ Associations, explained his reason for supporting Kim, who has a background in the Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union, by saying, "Kim has a fairly moderate orientation," and added, "He has conducted the fairest election campaign, is a person of outstanding character, and has been at the forefront of promoting the educational integration of Jeonnam and Gwangju. I want to support such a figure."

Choi said, "I would like to thank all the citizens of the city and province who have supported me, and I am sorry for not being able to see this through to the end. During the remaining election period, I will do my best to realize my cause together with the new preliminary candidate I support. I hope the preliminary candidates will refrain from negative campaigning and engage in healthy competition," he emphasized.

In response, Daejung Kim, a preliminary candidate, immediately expressed his welcome. Kim replied, "Your support, candidate Choi, will become a solid foundation for true educational integration," and added, "Only when progressives and conservatives work together can the true integration of Jeonnam and Gwangju be achieved."
