Gyeonggi Province Passes 41.68 Trillion Won Supplementary Budget... Expands Support for Livelihoods and Energy

The first supplementary budget of the year, totaling 41.6799 trillion won and organized by the Gyeonggi Provincial Government, was passed by the Gyeonggi Provincial Council on May 12, 2026.


This supplementary budget is 1.6222 trillion won larger than the original budget of 40.0577 trillion won initially established by the province. The increase includes 1.6119 trillion won in the general account and 10.3 billion won in the special account.


The Gyeonggi Provincial Government has included in this supplementary budget initiatives aimed at supporting the local economy as a protective buffer, guaranteeing residents' mobility rights, providing a three-pronged support package for farming households, and offering targeted assistance to vulnerable groups excluded from existing welfare programs.


Key items include: 1.1335 trillion won in compensation for damages caused by high oil prices; 12.3 billion won in support for maternal and newborn health management; 1 billion won in support for the Gyeonggi Province Veterans' Honor Allowance; and 3.6 billion won for the universal provision of menstrual products for women and adolescents in the province. In total, 1.1504 trillion won has been allocated to projects that act as a buffer for the local economy.


To guarantee residents’ mobility rights, 63.4 billion won has been allocated for metropolitan transfer fare discounts and 85.8 billion won for the expansion of "The Gyeonggi Pass," bringing the total budget for this area to 149.2 billion won.

Additionally, 700 million won will be provided for tax-free fuel support for farmers and fishermen; 400 million won for compensation for suspected African swine fever feed damages; and 200 million won for support with plastic film for forage rice straw production. In total, 1.3 billion won has been allocated for the "fuel, feed, and plastic" three-pronged support package aimed at stabilizing farming household management.


Furthermore, a total of 4.5 billion won has been allocated for targeted assistance to those in welfare blind spots, including 2.7 billion won for emergency welfare for families in crisis, 1.7 billion won for supporting research on delinquent taxpayers, and 100 million won for special cooling expense support for women's, single-parent, and children's facilities during the summer heat.



Dong-yeon Kim, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, attended the 390th temporary session of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council that day and stated, "The budget approved today will provide a vital lifeline for the struggling local economy and serve as an important support for protecting the lives of our residents. As the largest local government in Korea, Gyeonggi Province will further accelerate and enhance the completeness of budget execution to ensure that the supplementary budget delivers tangible results for the livelihoods of our residents."
