Leeum Museum Opens on Closing Day, Welcomes Over 200 Multicultural Families for Art Visit

Cooperation with Seoul Family Centers and Related Organizations

Entire Museum Opened; Exhibition Tours and Magic Show Held

The Leeum Museum of Art announced on May 12 that it held an art museum viewing event on May 11, inviting about 200 members of multicultural families in cooperation with family centers and related organizations throughout Seoul.

This event was organized to foster interaction among neighbors from diverse cultural backgrounds through art, helping them form a sense of community as members of the local society.

Participating organizations included the Yongsan-gu Family Center, the Itaewon and Ichon Global Village Centers, the Mari Shelter for Migrant Women and the Mari Community, as well as the Dongdaemun and Seocho Family Centers.

The Leeum Museum of Art opened the entire museum exclusively on Monday, its regular closing day, to provide attendees with an immersive experience. Participants viewed the "Permanent Exhibition of Antique Art," the "Into Another Space: Synesthetic Environments by Women Artists 1956-1976" exhibition, and the outdoor Orozco Garden.

Before the viewing, a curator provided an explanation of the museum and the exhibitions. In celebration of Family Month, a magic show was also prepared for young visitors.

One migrant woman who attended the event said, "I used to think museums were just places to quietly appreciate art, but it was refreshing to experience the exhibition and enjoy it through conversation with my child. It will be a day I remember for a long time."

Han Seon-gyu, director of the Yongsan-gu Family Center, said, "I felt rewarded seeing the families from the center, who usually found museum visits challenging, naturally enjoy the exhibition and performance."

Ryu Moon-hyung, CEO of the Samsung Foundation of Culture, stated, "A museum is an open space where people from various cultural backgrounds can understand each other through the common language of art. We will continue to lower barriers to entry and broaden the scope of empathy so that anyone can experience art naturally."

The Leeum Museum of Art has been holding regular events inviting local community members since 2022. The cumulative number of participants is approximately 2,100.
