Siheung City Launches Maintenance Initiatives in May
Strengthening Environmental Management at Siheung Smart Hub

Siheung City in Gyeonggi Province will conduct the "2026 Beautiful Industrial Complex Development" campaign once a month from May 8 until November (excluding the hot summer months of July and August) around the Siheung Smart Hub area. This initiative aims to systematically improve environmentally vulnerable areas within the industrial complex and to encourage greater voluntary participation from companies in environmental management.

The "Beautiful Industrial Complex Development" campaign is a public-private partnership program that includes riverbank, roadside, small park, and buffer green area clean-up activities, as well as on-site inspections and maintenance of pollution prevention facilities within business premises and activities to prevent water pollution accidents. Last year, a total of five campaigns were held, collecting 545 kilograms of waste in total, with 20 to 30 companies participating in each event.

Through this initiative, the city is focusing on preemptively eliminating potential environmental risks in the industrial complex and establishing a collaborative system that enables swift response should environmental issues arise.

Notably, this year, the campaign is linked with Gyeonggi Province's "Climate Action Opportunity Income" program, providing participants with a 2,000 won local currency incentive for each activity they join. This is designed to encourage active participation from company employees, promote a culture of climate action in daily life, and boost the local economy by stimulating local consumption.

"Climate Action Opportunity Income" is a program available to all Gyeonggi Province residents aged seven or older, rewarding individuals for practicing carbon neutrality in everyday life with incentives such as local currency.

Yang Soonpil, Director of the Environmental Bureau, stated, "The Beautiful Industrial Complex Development campaign is a sustainable industrial complex initiative jointly created by companies and the local administration," adding, "With active participation from businesses, we will continue to ensure that Siheung Smart Hub becomes a model of a pleasant and safe industrial complex."
