Promises a Major Shift in Sports Infrastructure

Breakthrough Achieved by Overcoming Environmental Regulations

Lee Hyunjai, candidate for Mayor of Hanam from the People Power Party, has announced a large-scale project aimed at improving citizens' quality of life and making a dramatic expansion of sports infrastructure for everyday use. The core of the plan is the extensive expansion of park golf courses, which are experiencing explosive demand, along with the construction of a large-scale, multi-purpose indoor sports complex capable of hosting national tournaments.

Considering that there are currently about 1,600 people waiting to use park golf facilities in Hanam, Lee stated his intention to add a total of 72 more park golf holes.

During a meeting with officials from the Park Golf Association on the 9th, Lee emphasized, "After persistent efforts such as conducting water flow studies, we have finally overcome regulatory hurdles. We will complete the construction by the first half of next year at the latest to meet the needs of enthusiasts."

Pushing for 72 Additional Park Golf Holes... 18 at Dangjeong Park, 18 at Gyosan, 36 at Seondong Park Golf Course

The 18-hole course at Dangjeong Park, which Lee has been working on during his previous term, is nearing completion and is expected to be finished in July this year. With a total project cost of 1.6 billion won, the facility will feature newly planted turf and state-of-the-art amenities. In addition, a connecting walkway will be built to link the rowing stadium, providing users with convenient access and parking.

To accommodate the rapidly growing demand, with a waiting list of approximately 1,000 people, Lee also announced plans to construct two additional facilities: 18 holes (15,000 square meters) within the sports facility site in the Gyosan district, and 36 holes (45,620 square meters) at the 'Seondong Park Golf Course' located beneath the Misa Bridge.

This announcement is particularly noteworthy because Lee had long fought for the 'Seondong Park Golf Course' (under Misa Bridge, around 615-1, Misadong), but the project was previously derailed due to stricter Ministry of Climate and Energy regulations restricting occupancy within 4 km upstream of water intake facilities. However, with the revision of the Ministry of Climate and Energy's "Detailed Standards for River Occupancy Permits" in March this year, the legal grounds necessary for re-negotiating the river occupancy permit have now been established, making the project feasible.

Throughout this process, Lee persistently requested the Ministry of Climate and Energy to ease the regulation limiting occupancy within 4 km upstream of water intake facilities. As a result of these efforts, the revised policy has now enabled the construction of the 36-hole Seondong Park Golf Course.

Lee also stated, "I will ensure that the current park golf course at the rowing stadium (warming-up area), with its 18 holes, continues to be available for use."

Construction of a 4,000-Seat (Project Cost: 50 Billion Won) Indoor Sports Complex

Lee went on to pledge the construction of an indoor sports arena on the unused land at Hanam Sports Complex, with a total project cost of 50 billion won.

The facility will be built on a 10,000 square meter site and will have a total of 4,000 seats—2,500 fixed seats and 1,500 retractable seats. More than just a neighborhood gym, the arena will be designed to meet the standards necessary to host national competitions in major sports such as badminton, basketball, volleyball, and handball.

Notably, the complex will also be designed for small- and medium-sized concerts and various cultural performances, making it a multi-purpose cultural venue that offers Hanam citizens a wide range of cultural experiences.

Lee Hyunjai pledged, "The most reliable welfare for citizens is to create an environment where anyone—including sports enthusiasts and seniors—can easily access exercise facilities in their neighborhood, improving health and quality of life. With my proven track record, I promise to deliver these results within my term."
