Kim made his first birdie easily after reaching the green in two shots on the par-5 4th hole. He then sank a birdie putt from 2.5 meters on the par-4 10th hole to further reduce his score. On the par-3 12th hole, his tee shot landed in the front bunker, leading to a bogey. After a run of four consecutive pars, he landed his tee shot 3.3 meters from the pin on the par-3 17th hole and converted it for a birdie.
Martin Laird of Scotland surged into the lead with a 7-under-par 64. Aaron Rai of England tied for second at 6-under-par 65, while Brooks Koepka of the United States was tied for 17th with a 3-under-par 68.
During the same period, the Signature Event Truist Championship, with a total prize fund of 20 million dollars, is being held in Charlotte, North Carolina. As a result, top-ranked players did not participate in the Myrtle Beach Classic.
