Yangyang County Launches Pilot Operation of Year-Round "Yangyang Sports Complex Air Dome"

A Total of 3 Billion Won Invested; Facility Covers 2,600 Square Meters

A Sports Hub Free from Fine Dust and Inclement Weather

Official Opening in July Following Pilot Operations Until the End of June

Yangyang County in Gangwon Province announced on May 7 that it has completed the construction of the "Yangyang Sports Complex Air Dome," allowing residents to enjoy sports year-round regardless of the weather, and officially began pilot operations on May 6.

The air dome, located at 10 Hangogae-gil, Yangyang-eup (within the Yangyang Sports Complex), was built with a total project budget of 3 billion won (845 million won from the province and 2.155 billion won from the county). Covering a total floor area of approximately 2,600 square meters, the facility can accommodate up to 1,000 people and is expected to become a major hub for large-scale sports events in the region.

Prior to the official opening in July, the county will conduct pilot operations for about two months from May 6 to June 30. During this period, the county will focus on thoroughly inspecting facility operation methods and safety management systems, as well as actively gathering feedback from actual users to reflect in the final operational guidelines.

During the pilot period, the facility will be open from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on weekdays, and from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on holidays, operating every day without holidays. The eligible users are football, futsal, and jokgu clubs affiliated with Yangyang County Office and Yangyang County Sports Council, and reservations are accepted by phone through the Sports Facility Team of the Department of Education and Sports.

In addition, the county has completed all procedures for amending relevant ordinances to ensure systematic operation and efficient management of the facility.

According to the revised ordinance, air dome usage fees are applied differently depending on the purpose, based on a single field for a two-hour session. For general sports matches such as football and futsal, the fee is 100,000 won on weekdays and 150,000 won on holidays (including Saturdays and Sundays). For uses other than sports competitions, such as tournaments or events, the fee is set at 250,000 won on weekdays and 350,000 won on holidays.

The ordinance also stipulates that if facility use is canceled or suspended due to natural disasters or special circumstances of the county, the full amount of the usage fee paid will be refunded, thereby enhancing user rights protection and operational transparency.

The state-of-the-art indoor sports space, the "Air Dome," which overcomes the limitations of traditional outdoor activities, is expected not only to broaden the scope of activities for local sports enthusiasts but also to invigorate the local sports culture.

An official from Yangyang County stated, "With the establishment of the air dome, residents now have a comfortable environment to exercise at any time, regardless of the weather. During the pilot operation period, we will carefully collect users' feedback to ensure that the air dome becomes a beloved sports landmark for all residents."
