The Daejeon Art Philharmonic Orchestra will hold its 8th regular concert, the "New Year's Concert," at 7:30 p.m. on February 3 at the Grand Theater of the Daejeon Yeonjeong Korean Traditional Music Center.

This concert marks the first official stage for local young musicians under the age of 39, who were selected through a public audition held in early January, to perform together as a single orchestra. It signals a new beginning for Daejeon Art Philharmonic and offers a valuable opportunity to preview the youthful and dynamic musical direction they will pursue.

After successfully completing a total of 24 performances last year and contributing to the cultivation of local classical talent, Daejeon Art Philharmonic plans to host more than 25 performances this year, aiming to connect even more closely with the community.

This concert, conducted by Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Chung Chiyong, will feature a splendid program filled with hope for 2026. The repertoire will range from masterpieces by Johann Strauss II, in the tradition of the Vienna New Year's Concert, to works by Mozart and Tchaikovsky.

The opening stage will begin brightly with the overture to Strauss II's operetta "Die Fledermaus." Next, flutist Lee Yerin, a professor at Korea National University of Arts and an active performer both domestically and internationally, will appear as a soloist. She will present Mozart's "Flute Concerto No. 2 in D major," showcasing the unique charm of Mozart through her delicate musical expression.

The second part will feature the exotic colors of Strauss II's operetta "The Gypsy Baron Overture" and the grand yet elegant "Emperor Waltz," further elevating the atmosphere.

The concert will conclude with Tchaikovsky's "Capriccio Italien." The dynamic orchestration of this piece symbolically represents the brilliant new journey that Daejeon Art Philharmonic is embarking on.

A representative of Daejeon Art Philharmonic stated, "This New Year's Concert will not only share the beauty of classical music with citizens, but also serve as a moment to demonstrate the youthful energy of the newly formed Daejeon Art Philharmonic."
