Leading Kimchi Exports... Expanding to 80 Countries Worldwide

[2026 Asia Consumer Awards]
Grand Prize Winner Daesang

The export value of Daesang Jongga Kimchi soared from 29 million dollars in 2016 to 93.9 million dollars in 2024, more than tripling to reach an all-time high. As of the cumulative total for the third quarter of last year, Jongga Kimchi accounted for 57% of Korea's total kimchi exports, surpassing half of the market share.

The background behind the expansion of kimchi exports includes the global boom in K-content and a shift in perceptions toward Korean food culture. Once considered an exotic food, kimchi is now gaining attention for its health benefits as a fermented food, leading to rapidly growing demand from overseas consumers.

Daesang Jongga is accelerating diversification in its export markets. Jongga Kimchi is now available in more than 80 countries worldwide, including the Americas, Europe, and Asia. In Asian regions such as Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, the proportion of local consumers continues to rise, and recently, the number of local consumers regularly eating kimchi in Western markets such as the United States and Europe has also been increasing.

The growth in the U.S. market is particularly remarkable. In 2022, Daesang became the first Korean food company to complete a large-scale kimchi factory in California, establishing a local production base. This facility, with an annual production capacity of 2,000 tons, produces products tailored to local food culture, including Jongga Original Kimchi, vegan kimchi, and baek kimchi (white kimchi). By sourcing local ingredients and upgrading its production system, Daesang has significantly improved its responsiveness in sales and distribution within the United States.

The company is also stepping up its efforts to target the European market. Daesang has established a joint venture with a local company in Poland and is moving forward with the construction of a kimchi production plant. Upon completion, the facility aims to produce more than 3,000 tons annually and to expand its presence in major European retail channels.
