Yangju City in Gyeonggi Province announced that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport gave final approval for the inclusion of the new Deokjeong~Okjeong Line in the Second Gyeonggi Province Urban Rail Network Construction Plan, which was officially announced on December 12.
The Second Gyeonggi Province Urban Rail Network Construction Plan is a statutory plan established every ten years by city and provincial governors in accordance with the Urban Railroad Act. This latest plan includes a total of 12 lines, with the Deokjeong~Okjeong Line designated as one of the six new lines, thereby establishing a legal foundation for the project's future implementation.
The Deokjeong~Okjeong Line will span 3.9 kilometers, connecting Okjeong Central District (Line 7, Station 201) and Deokjeong Station on the GTX-C line. If the project proceeds, it is expected to significantly improve regional development and access to the greater Seoul metropolitan area by serving as a key transfer hub linking GTX-C, Line 1, and Line 7.
The city plans to establish a comprehensive strategy to ensure smooth progress of the Deokjeong~Okjeong Line project, including securing funding, implementing follow-up administrative procedures, and enhancing project feasibility.
Lee Eunsuk, Director of the Road and Transportation Bureau of Yangju City, stated, "Once the Deokjeong~Okjeong Line is implemented, the city's rail network will be connected, greatly improving convenience for our citizens. We will continue to secure stable funding and carry out subsequent procedures without delay to deliver tangible results that citizens can experience."
