Icheon City to Promote Expansion of Local Road No. 70 Connecting Icheon and Yeoju

Icheon City in Gyeonggi Province is moving forward with the expansion of Local Road No. 70, a key arterial road connecting Icheon and Yeoju.

On December 9, Icheon City announced this plan during a project briefing session for the 'Baeksa-Hungcheon Road Construction on Local Road No. 70,' held at the Baeksa-myeon Administrative Welfare Center.

This project, implemented by Gyeonggi Province, involves constructing a 6.1-kilometer road section connecting Mojon-ri in Baeksa-myeon, Icheon City, to Munjang-ri in Hungcheon-myeon, Yeoju City. Of this, the section currently being promoted is a 3.66-kilometer stretch between Gyeongsa Samgeori in Mojon-ri, Baeksa-myeon and Hyeonbang Sageori in Hyeonbang-ri.

Although Local Road No. 70 serves as a key arterial route between the two regions, traffic congestion has worsened due to a sharp increase in traffic volume following the opening of the Seongnam-Janghowon Expressway and the Buk Yeoju Interchange on the Jungbu Inland Expressway. Additionally, safety concerns have been raised due to the risk of collisions between cyclists and agricultural machinery. As a result, the need to expand the road has been consistently highlighted.

The city plans to actively facilitate swift administrative procedures and encourage resident cooperation to ensure that compensation and construction by Gyeonggi Province proceed smoothly.

Kim Kyunghee, Mayor of Icheon City, stated, "We will continue to work closely with related agencies such as the Seoul Regional Land Management Office and Gyeonggi Province to ensure that this long-awaited project for Icheon City can move forward as quickly as possible."
