In particular, the shortage of rural labor has become a recurring issue every year, especially during the busy farming season when intensive labor is required in a short period of time. For this reason, the county and the local community are working together to continue the rural labor assistance program.
The county will accept applications until the 30th, assess the current labor shortage in rural areas, and identify the number of participants from local organizations and institutions. Based on priority, it will then coordinate schedules and participant numbers for each farm and institution to provide efficient support. In the first half of this year, 275 people from 21 organizations participated in the rural labor assistance program. The program for the second half will run for about two months, from September to November.
Priority for support will be given to those with mobility difficulties, elderly people living alone, and female farmers. The program will also include basic livelihood security recipients, small-scale farms, and farms that require a large amount of manual labor and are in urgent need of assistance.
Applications for rural labor assistance can be submitted through the Agricultural Policy Division’s Agricultural Support Team at the county office, or the Industrial Development Team at the township and town administrative welfare centers.
Jeon Sanggeun, head of the Agricultural Policy Division, stated, "As it is becoming increasingly difficult to secure labor in rural areas due to aging and population decline, the rural labor assistance program, with the participation of the county and local organizations, will be a great support to farms. We will continue to actively support agriculture and rural communities so that the local community can overcome challenges and achieve mutual prosperity together."
