Smart HACCP certification is granted to HACCP facilities that have established a system capable of digitizing food safety information, automating operational monitoring, and collecting, managing, and analyzing related data. It represents the highest level of assurance in providing safe food based on information that anyone can trust.
The first location to receive Smart HACCP certification is the meat section of 'Lepicerie' at the Incheon branch of Lotte Department Store. Lepicerie, introduced in December 2023 as Lotte Department Store's first next-generation premium grocery store, was recognized for its advanced control system capable of real-time temperature detection, which the company explained played a decisive role in obtaining the Smart HACCP certification.
In addition, under proprietary HACCP standards developed in collaboration with Lotte Central Research Center, Lotte Department Store has established a highly advanced quality management process through ongoing coaching and feedback at store locations.
As a result, the Lepicerie meat section is now capable of real-time temperature monitoring and recording, automatic alerts when temperature thresholds are exceeded, and post-management. This ensures not only the freshness of livestock products but also quality stability during storage and distribution stages.
Lotte Department Store, which already holds standard HACCP certification at all its locations, plans to expand Smart HACCP certification starting with the Incheon branch. The company aims to add up to five more Smart HACCP-certified stores nationwide next year.
Lee Junho, Head of Food Hygiene at Lotte Department Store, stated, "Becoming the first department store to obtain Smart HACCP certification is a meaningful achievement that officially recognizes our thorough quality control and hygiene standards for food." He added, "We will continue to advance our smart store management system so that customers can trust and choose Lotte Department Store, backed by the best quality management capabilities in Korea."
