There are a total of nine high school equalization areas in the province: Suwon, Seongnam, Anyang District (Anyang, Gwacheon, Gunpo, Uiwang), Goyang, Ansan, Yongin, Bucheon, Gwangmyeong, and Uijeongbu.

For student placement, among applicants for general high schools in the nine districts, students are selected based on their middle school academic records (out of 200 points) up to the enrollment quota for each district’s general high schools for the year. Then, the list of students eligible for placement is announced. After that, students are assigned to schools using a "multiple application first, lottery later" method based on their preferred order of general high schools within the equalization district.

Among the equalization areas in the province, six districts?Suwon, Seongnam, Anyang District, Goyang, Ansan, and Yongin?will first implement "in-district placement" as the first stage. After that, all students who were not assigned to a school in the first stage will undergo a second stage called "in-zone placement." However, for Hyangdong High School in Goyang District and Cheoin High School in Yongin District, only "in-district placement" will be temporarily applied.

"In-district placement" allows students to select and rank five desired general high schools within their residential district, regardless of the location of their middle school. Placement is then determined by computer lottery.

"In-zone placement" targets all general high schools within the zone where the student’s middle school is located, and students are assigned to schools by computer lottery based on their ranked preferences.

In the three districts consisting of a single zone?Bucheon, Gwangmyeong, and Uijeongbu?only the first stage, "in-district placement," is implemented. However, unlike other districts, students in these areas must rank all schools in the district from first to last preference, rather than selecting only five schools, and placement is determined accordingly.

Meanwhile, applicants for foreign language high schools, international high schools, and autonomous private high schools may also apply simultaneously to general high schools in the equalization districts if they wish. In this case, the first preference must be a foreign language high school, international high school, or autonomous private high school, and from the second preference onward, students must list general high schools in the district or zone in order of preference. If a student is not admitted to their first-choice school (foreign language, international, or autonomous private high school), they will be assigned to a school based on their preferences from the second choice onward through a lottery.

In addition, if a student who has been forcibly transferred due to a school violence incident applies to a general high school in the same district as the victim, the victim will be given priority, and both students will be assigned to different schools.

The Provincial Office of Education will hold an "Online Information Session on Student Placement Plans for High School Equalization Areas" for each district in September, focusing on these details.

The "2026 Equalization Area Student Placement Plan" can be found on the "Gyeonggi Province High School Admission and Transfer Portal (satp.goe.go.kr)." Further details regarding the online information sessions will be posted after September.
