Jeollanam-do announced on the 18th that since 2015, by directly operating drones to support various administrative tasks such as capturing the latest aerial footage, it has saved approximately 350 million KRW annually, totaling 3.5 billion KRW in budget reductions.

In fact, last year, videos of 103 locations including Suncheonman Garden and Haenam Sani Garden were filmed, producing footage of Jeollanam-do’s major tourist attractions and key project sites. The latest aerial images for monitoring changes at locations such as the new Eastern Regional Headquarters building and the Wando Marine Healing Center are currently available on the Jeollanam-do spatial information platform.

This year as well, by surveying filming needs from provincial departments and cities/counties, the province plans to provide up-to-date drone footage for over 100 sites, including the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, sites designated by the ‘Special Act on Supporting Remote Islands in National Border Areas,’ the Opening Day event for Islands to Visit, promotional materials for the Organic Day Direct Market, architectural landscape reviews, and projects for urban regeneration and local vitality towns.

The latest drone footage is being provided on the Jeollanam-do spatial information platform. After security processing, it is made available for free to be utilized in new digital industries such as digital twin and autonomous driving.

High-precision filming is also being conducted to produce 3D videos of major landmarks representing each city and county. The province plans to expand services by creating 3D videos of symbolic buildings and structures to be used for city/county promotion and creating bird’s-eye views.

In addition, with selection for the Ministry of Science and ICT’s ‘2025 Smart Village Distribution and Expansion Project,’ Jeollanam-do plans to build marine spatial information based on satellite and drone imagery, following inland areas, to support solutions for marine issues such as marine debris collection and management of harmful marine organisms.

Kim Seungchae, Director of Land Management at Jeollanam-do, said, “We have actively supported various administrative tasks by introducing drones so far,” and added, “We will continue to discover new areas for administrative support and participate in national projects to expand spatial information services trusted by residents.”
