Dongjak-gu is creating charming green gardens throughout the area to provide residents with healing spaces within the city.

Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced that it held festivals on the 30th of last month and the 2nd of this month to commemorate the creation of these charming gardens, featuring various events such as gardening with residents and talk concerts by garden artists.

Previously, the district renovated two vacant spaces in the area into charming gardens.

This project is significant because a garden artist with award-winning experience from events such as the Suncheon Bay International Garden Expo participated in the design, and residents also helped cultivate the gardens.

In front of a residential area in Sindaebang-dong, a resting garden called ‘Beoreong Garden’ was created on a vacant lot (Sindaebang-dong 720-1) where residents can take a short break.

The name ‘Beoreong Garden’ was inspired by the word ‘beoreong,’ which refers to gloves that people used to wear when birds called Boramae rested on their hands, symbolizing a place of rest for residents.

Additionally, a part of the Ssamji Madang in Sangdo-dong (Sangdo-dong 159-330) was reborn as the ‘Operating Garden,’ symbolizing the continuous interaction and movement between people and nature through the garden.

Going forward, the garden will serve as a space for communication with residents by linking with nearby senior centers and daycare centers, where people can plant and nurture plants according to the four seasons.

Furthermore, this year the district plans to create a total of 40 gardens and pocket rest areas by actively utilizing vacant spaces such as forests, green areas, parks, and streetsides within the district, providing pleasant and safe resting places wherever residents go.

Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, said, “I hope that residents will enjoy the beautiful natural environment in the newly created gardens and find happiness in their daily lives. We will continue to realize Dongjak as a place of rest by creating healing spaces within the city.”
