Nexon recorded its highest-ever performance last year, with sales approaching 4 trillion won and operating profit in the 1 trillion won range.

On the 8th, Nexon announced that it recorded sales of 3.9323 trillion won and operating profit of 1.2516 trillion won last year. Compared to the previous year, sales increased by 20% and operating profit by 30%. These are the highest sales and operating profit ever recorded.

However, operating profit in the fourth quarter of last year decreased by 59% compared to the same period the previous year, worsening profitability. This was due to game sales such as MapleStory falling short of expectations and an increase in various one-time expenses.

‘FC Online,’ which showed remarkable growth from the time of the Qatar World Cup at the end of 2022, maintained strong momentum in 2023 and achieved record annual sales. In the China region, ‘Dungeon & Fighter’ showed steady growth starting with strong sales of the Lunar New Year package, and ‘MapleStory’ also contributed to growth by introducing the 6th job advancement content, resulting in Nexon’s PC sales increasing by 25% compared to the previous year in 2023.

‘FC Mobile,’ which continued stable growth, along with ‘Blue Archive,’ which succeeded in entering China following hits in Korea and Japan, and ‘MapleStory M,’ released in China, achieved remarkable results, leading to mobile sales growing by 9% compared to the same period last year.

Nexon recorded double-digit growth rates in all regions last year, including Korea, China, Japan, North America and Europe, and Southeast Asia and other regions. In particular, the North America and Europe region recorded a 78% increase in sales in the fourth quarter alone, thanks to the success of globally popular titles ‘Dave the Diver’ and ‘The Finals.’

Owen Mahoney, CEO of Nexon Japan, evaluated, “Despite difficulties caused by unexpected issues in the fourth quarter, annual sales and operating profit for 2023 achieved record growth.”

He said, “The successful launch of The Finals is a major step in our global market expansion strategy, and the possibility that The Finals will become Nexon’s next major franchise is very high. The development team is currently preparing rapid content updates reflecting user feedback, and plans to release Season 2 in March.”

Nexon plans to accelerate its global market expansion with new titles armed with proprietary IP and cross-platform capabilities. The next-generation root shooter game ‘First Descendant’ and ‘Mabinogi Mobile,’ both scheduled for release this summer, are also targeted to be launched within the year. In addition, various genres such as the hardcore action RPG ‘First Berserker: Kazan,’ the stealth survival game ‘Nakwon,’ and the team battle action game ‘Wake Runner’ will be introduced across various platforms.
